Homework
Draw from observation focus on guidelines, composition and accuracy
Font, lettering, accuracy, guidelines, observe,
Starter: on a small piece of paper try own name in different ways/styles/fonts.
Input: using guidelines, board demonstrations, cylindrical forms, using curved guidelines, angles and composition
Activity: observation drawing of packaging (Drawing Test)
Plenary: peer marking, go through accuracy, guideline and linear qualities
Draw three packaging objects arranged together
Learn how to draw ellipses in perspective
Ratio, ellipse, perspective
Starter: compare homework in pairs and give a mark out of 6 for guidelines, composition and accuracy and take an average
Input: board examples, individual demonstrations holding a plant pot. Go through rules through observation
Activity: draw tin/ flower pot at different heights. Worksheet on ellipses, practice drawing ellipses different sizes and angles
Plenary: summarize and questioning rules for drawing ellipses accurately.
Draw four cylindrical objects in one arrangement, add packaging lettering to one of them
Draw accurately using ellipses and guidelines
Cylinder, tone, scale
Starter: do a revision drawing labeled that explains clearly rules of drawing a cylinder with ellipses
Input: demonstration- draw on board
Activity: observation drawing test using packaging on cylindrical forms, Pringles and tins of beans/soup
Plenary: summarize successes and failures, evaluate
Draw a tin with its label accurately and use guidelines and add colour
Learn different styles and fonts
Guidelines, logo, tag, accuracy
Starter: divide double pages into three sections and draw letter of first name in first section using guide-lines
Input: show samples from magazine cuttings of letter J with guidelines drawn over
Activity: stick in eight different examples of one letter, then add guidelines and copy the examples, when completed, so the same with some logo/advertising designs
Plenary: questioning successes and failures using guidelines, difficulties/variations/observations, show examples
Draw four logo designs from soda bottles, colour using collage
Composition, pleasing or not (aesthetics)
Geometric
Golden mean, composition
Starter: draw three geometric shapes into four composition boxes, discuss the best arrangement
Input: golden mean, samples of architecture, dividing up a page
Activity: draw from observation, close up sections
Plenary: peer discussion line up work best to worst composition designs
Set up a still life of food from the kitchen and use the golden mean to design two different compositions from observation
Understand the context of the Art Movement Pop Art and identify characteristics
Pop Art, Pop Music, Art movement, style, Benday dots, Flat colour
Starter: write down the meaning of Pop Music and draw the apple logo from memory
Input: open questioning related to history WW2 and consumerism, Steve Jobs and the logo court case with the Beatles.
Activity: double page on Pop Art with samples drawn, Robert Indiana, Warhol and Oldenburg.
Plenary: identify characteristics of each artist
Research Pop Art and draw Robert Indiana’s Love sculpture
Understand how artists influence/share each others ideas and style, know the limitations and copyright laws
Three dimensional, two dimensional, copyright, critical study
Starter: look at art of Robert Indiana, Google logo and Rage album design, write down the similarities and place them in order
Input: samples shown, logistics and copyright, critical studies, how one artist will influence another and ideas develop
Activity: develop own ideas
Plenary: how to design your own lettering sculpture
Draw a sculpture based on your own word/name and bring in a sweet wrapper
Improve observational drawing accuracy
Section,
Detail,
Media
Starter: divide page into four and start drawing a section of wrapper
Input: close up of a sweet wrapper x 4 show sample and discuss different materials
Activity: draw four different sections close up in different materials using different techniques
Plenary: detail, relevant media
Do a close up section of a food label using colour pencils-front and back view
Relate own ideas to Warhol and Oldenburg
Sculpture, design development
Starter: describe the 2D and 3D examples of Pop Art, relating to Warhol and Oldenburg
Input: describe possible ideas of sculpture related to some homework, relate to Warhol
Activity: 3 design ideas
Plenary: questioning on how to change 3D idea to 2D-show Warhol example
Draw food spilling out of packet or can
Learn how to sell an idea
Location, form
Starter: get into pairs and decide on best design idea
Input: show selling board and demonstration of how to make a papier mache sculpture and structure-card and chicken wire
Activity: create a board of one board, with a selling tag, instructions of how to make it, location photograph and drawings of sections
Plenary: two people to get up and talk about their work to the class. Discussion and make list of what to bring in
Finish selling board and bring in all materials to make the sculptures.
Understand 3D proportions
Intentions, relevance
Starter: in pairs explain basic structure of intended sculpture
Input: discuss accuracy of proportions, importance of measuring to get correct enlargement without distortions
Activity: make basic sculpture shape
Plenary: packing up and organization, successes and failures
Using guidelines and achieving quality of finish
Evaluation, success, quality of finish
Starter: evaluate process so far and plan making
Input: add importance of using guidelines-demonstration on a 3D model
Activity: draw accurate labels on and paint
Plenary: discussion and evaluation
